Student Poster Analysis

Below is a students (Nemi) poster, from a trailer called "The Last Journey", In this blog I will be analysing the poster as a media product, identifying the strenghts and drawbacks of the poster.

Firstly, the advantages of the poster, and straight away we can see that this is a picture of a character from the film but the advantage is that through the use of an image taken from outside of the film trailer and is not a shot from the trailer. This may initially seem like a drawback but the disguised benefit is that not a lot at all is given away intising the target audience to watch the film and found about this girls journey.

Another advantage of the poster is that its all well laid out and very formal. There is not text all over the place and there is some good structure to it with the main image being mostly on the right and stretching to the left whereas the title is on the left hand side. This is good because the title and the poster and the two key aspects of any poster and by allowing them not clash with each other shows good awareness that these two aspects need to both stand out in their own individual manner.
However, the poster has its disadvanatges too, the picture is quite pixelated and blurry when seen in the full image which shows signs of clumbsy mistakes and therefore lacks professionalism and sophisticationn that the poster requires to reflect its quality.

Another disadvantage I would have to point out is quite a big one and that is that I would not be able to match it with a particular genre. Because the shot is taken from outside the film it lacks relevence and it also in this case means it carries fewer conventions of the genre its trying to categorise itself with.

Poster Analysis

Below are a couple of examples in "The Final Destination" and "Drag Me To Hell" where these posters follow the general conventions in horror moveis where a large image is used and ultiamtely focused on whereas the amount of text is fairly small and include no external source reviews such as Empire or various newspapers. The text is usually just the title or a mention of the actors/producers/distrubtuion in very small font usually placed at the bottom of the poster where their not prioritised and seem of little significance.

In both of the above posters very little text is used especially in the Final Destiantion poster where the date "August", the title and a short but snappy attraction line are the only pieces of textual references actually used.

This is the same for Drag me to Hell where the same sort of textual reference is used except for the credits at the base of the poster is used whereas this is not in The Final Destination poster.
